A professional male is caught communicating with teenagers online

Our client was going through a traumatic and lonely period in his life and turned to online chat rooms looking for companionship. His behaviour escalated to him “talking dirty” with teenagers. He was charged with the serious offending of grooming and procuring children for sexual activity.

We were able to successfully convince the jury that he had no intention whatsoever to meet with children in reality and/or engage in sexual activity, and that his behaviour in fact amounted to the lesser charge of using a carriage service to transmit indecent communication to a person under 16.

He was released on a Community Corrections Order, with the benefit of engaging in rehabilitative treatment as part of the conditions of the order, which meant he received appropriate support to get his life back on track.
